England

English / British recipes and links...
(NB: "British" does not necessarily mean "English"...and vice versa. England is only one part of Great Britain, which also includes Scotland and Wales, as well as smaller regions with distinct food specialties and traditions -- Devon and Cornwall, for example. Not many online sources specifically collect "English" recipes, possibly because in many cases it's no longer possible to trace the origins of specific dishes.)
Please note that some of the links below refer to sites that no longer exist or have moved where we can't find them. In these cases, we link to the Wayback Machine's archived copies of the sites.
While other English and British cookbooks are shown on this page, the one in the box to the left is probably our favorite. It can be hard to find, but it's worth the search. Check Abebooks.com for a used version.
- At our own site -- A small collection of English recipes, including: Hot Chocolate Soufflées, Yorkshire Oatcakes, Toad-in-the-Hole, Cornish Pasties and some variations, Trifle, "Groaty Dick" Pudding, "Poor Knights of Windsor", Buttered Oranges, Steak and Kidney Pie, and a recipe for making your own clotted cream from scratch.

- Courtesy of the Wayback Machine, we've managed to find a copy of Sharon Curtis's English Recipes page.

In the box below you'll see recommendations for the cookbooks of Delia Smith. She is probably the most widely known of the popularizers of the "new British cooking", though she does also venture into other cuisines. (She also probably single-handedly (re)introduced the cranberry to English cooking in the Winter Collection cookbook.)
