Recent interesting Google searches that have brought guests here

We get some interesting (and sometimes amusing or bemusing) searches through here. Up until now we haven't really done anything about them except to notice them in the logs as they go by. Now, though, we're going to start putting the more unusual ones here.

  • A picture of the food "sambo" served in Ireland
    • A "sambo" is Irish / UK slang for any kind of sandwich. (Nothing racist about it, thank heavens.) The "add an O" thing is a commonplace in Irish casual speech: for example, "Indo" is slang for the Irish Independent newspaper. See also the line "Take her up to Monto" in the slightly scurrilous traditional song of the same name: the word refers to the former Montgomery Street, and the word's shortened version gave its name to the Monto, old Dublin's red-light district.
  • Cake farts
  • Do the Irish eat Pringles?
    • Yes: all the supermarkets here carry them, and so do most convenience stores. They're manufactured here by Procter & Gamble.
  • what is the difference between us buttermilk and german one?
  • 7 oz olive oil conversion to cup
Put a fluid ounce of some other oil in there and it'll be half a cup.
  • What do they call lemons in England?
      They call them "lemons".
  • What do Irish people look like?
We really need to put up some pictures of Irish people, as we get this question all the time. Meanwhile, your best bet is to go to Flickr and use the search box to search the terms "Irish" and "people".
  • What kind of waffle iron do you use for Liége waffles?
Well, this one would be typical, but you probably don't want to spend $1300 for it. The thing to do is try to find a home waffle iron that comes with more than one kind of pressing plate. Machines that offer different plates will normally have the Liége plate as an option. ...That said, a normal waffle iron will make Liége waffles just fine: the important thing to get right is the batter. The recipe is here.
